Kathy Wong is a self-professed serial entrepreneur who took the leap to "dream crazy" and follow her purpose and passion in recent years as the founder of designer flip flop brand Moeloco.
The 54-year old has two former businesses under her belt, one being a very successful design company that allowed her to retire in her early forties. A failed marriage and two miscarriages took her on a new journey where she now believes she has found her true purpose in life, one that also helps the 300 million children in the world who live in poverty without shoes.
Moeloco designer rubber flip flops leave positive messages in the sand. The affirming messages include, I Am Peace, I Am Grateful, I Am Happy, Live Love and Kathy's own personal mission statement, Dream Crazy.
For every pair sold, Moeloco donates a pair of shoes to a child in need. In countries like India, children are not given access to school without shoes due to fear of spreading foot diseases and living without shoes can also have fatal consequences due to health issues. It really makes you think doesn't it?
Most of us have wardrobes filled with shoes and wish for more, yet there are children who can't even obtain an education because they don't own one single pair!
In the last 3 years, Moeloco has changed over 7,000 lives.
Kathy embodies the term "inspirational woman". Her zest for life, her love and support of others and her drive to make the world a better place is beyond admirable.
She wants to see a world where every product and service has a positive social impact in the world and that world will be driven by children creating social enterprises.
Biz Gals: What is your greatest achievement?
Kathy: Launching Moeloco, my social enterprise business that has so far impacted 7,000 lives of children in poverty with our donated shoes that allow these kids to attend school.
Biz Gals: What is the greatest lesson you have learnt?
Kathy: That dreams do come true if you really are motivated that you want it. Next you must believe and trust the dream will materialise and let go of when.
Biz Gals: What is the best bit of advice you have been given?
Kathy: Ask specifically for what you want. The other part of this equation is to then receive that help fully and openly.
Biz Gals: What or who inspires you?
Kathy: The children we support inspire me, after seeing the hardships they have endured and being able to still be so joyous. I am also incredibly inspired by our youth team, and Moeloco’s teen social entrepreneurs. They have no fear, are creative and can only see endless possibilities.
Biz Gals: What is your biggest hope for women in the future?
Kathy: I want women to be empowered and find their voice to speak up and stand up for what they believe in. I want women to be paid, given the same opportunities and treated equally and fairly to their male counterparts. I really do believe women are the key to changing the world and so seeing women step up into key positions in politics is essential.
