Today's inspirational woman is someone who has most likely been in your lounge rooms many times over.
A woman we admire for so many reasons. From standing up to the big guys in an industry where that just doesn't happen very much (if at all), to saying "no" to make up in a bid to show her daughter that women are beautiful just the way they are. As a brief aside, we highly recommend you check out her TEDx talk about her experience with deconstructing the beauty myth here.
On the eve of the release of her book, The Good Girl Stripped Bare, we are proud to feature Journalist and Author, The Real Tracey Spicer as our Inspirational Biz Gal for this week.
Biz Gals: What is your greatest achievement?
Tracey: My greatest achievement is standing up against workplace discrimination, by taking legal action - and starting a media campaign - against my employer, Network Ten, after my contract was terminated upon returning from maternity leave.
Biz Gals: What is the greatest lesson you have learnt?
Tracey: To always stand up for yourself. At the time, I thought I'd never work in the industry again. Since then, I've worked for almost every television network, newspaper group and radio station, as part of a portfolio career.
Biz Gals: What is the best bit of advice you have been given?
Tracey: To pick your battles. Then you have the energy and focus to hone in on the right ones.
Biz Gals: What or who inspires you?
Tracey: My Mum always inspired me, but she sadly passed away 20 years ago. My grandmother was also a huge influence. Now, I look up to my Dad, who's battled many demons and come out on top.
Biz Gals: What is your biggest hope for women in the future?
Tracey: That, one day, we can be truly equal. I certainly hope I live to see that day.
