Inspirational Women Series: Anna Adams
Born in Paris and raised between the United States and France, Anna Adams is the author of the bestselling young adult French Girl and American Girl series.
When writing the French Girl series (often in libraries all around the world!), it was important to Anna to ensure that her protagonist, Maude Laurent, was a spirited, strong and vivaciously talented young girl who represented a great role model for all her readers.
She certainly achieved that and so much more in the series that has seen over 40,000 books sold worldwide and counting!
Biz Gals: What is your greatest achievement?
Anna: My greatest achievement is that my teen novel, A French Girl in New York, and the subsequent books in the series have been so well received by readers all over the world.
I never thought when I was a child that I could ever make a living as an author. The fact that I can write, travel, and come home to my life in Paris is more than I dreamed of as a child and knowing that the series is breaking into new territories since being translated into French and Spanish fills me with pride!
Biz Gals: What is the greatest lesson you have learnt?
Anna: Knowing when to go slowly and when to go fast.
Biz Gals: What would you tell your younger self?
Anna: To travel not to find yourself, but to discover others.
Biz Gals: What or who inspires you?
Anna: Paris. Where I live is a constant source of inspiration, as well as all the countries I’ve visited.
I feel like there are so many different forms of beauty in the world, beauty that I could not have imagined even if I tried. And I want to share it with as many readers as possible.
Biz Gals: What is your biggest hope for women in the future?
Anna: I found that once I stopped fearing for my personal safety, no place in the world was off-limits. I want women to be fearless, to dream big, and to push back limits.
I hope that, one day, they can travel anywhere in the world alone without fearing for their safety.
